My sewing essentials

I have been sewing for over 10 years and have accumulated lots of tools to get the job done. I have 4 sewing machines, 1 serger and lots and lots of hand me down tools. My sewing practice is very messy and chaotic and I love that I can make something from nothing. I started making bags and totes sewing some by hand and some with my old Husqvarna sewing machine and calling most of my creations “prototypes”. This is a term I use for all of the “firsts”. I like to start by making without a pattern just to have fun and get my ideas out of my head. Then, I graduate to making a custom pattern that suits my needs. Which can sometimes mean several renditions.

Some of my favorite patterns are the doll clothes. I am totally obsessed and always end up wanting the miniature outfit for myself.

Most things I make are for personal use when I don’t see what I want on the market (or can’t afford it). Cotton and Linen are my favorite fabrics to work with and they are super durable. This goes for home décor and stuffed animals alike. I invite you to view my sewing essentials and let me know which ones work for you and which ones don’t. What are your essentials and what keeps your sewing room humming?
